Institute for Solid Structures

At the Institute for Solid Structures at TU Darmstadt, we focus on research and teaching in the fields of reinforced concrete and masonry construction. The aim is to enable students to plan and realise constructions using appropriate materials. Elective subjects and practical exercises enable them to deepen their knowledge and apply it independently. Excursions and external lecturers ensure a strong practical orientation. Research specialisms such as carbon reinforced concrete, load-bearing earth masonry, dry-stacked masonry under dynamic stress, bridge monitoring and urban mining are directly incorporated into teaching. The close connection between teaching, research and industry supports the development of innovative technologies and the rapid implementation of research results in practice.
