Teaching
Civil engineers with a university education must be able to carry out all professional tasks independently and economically. The Department of Concrete and Masonry Structures offers courses in both the Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes in civil engineering and also offers many different topics for final theses.
Students who are particularly interested can acquire further knowledge by choosing additional subjects from their specialisation. The knowledge acquired can be tested and consolidated independently in seminars and tutorials. Numerous excursions as well as the involvement of lecturers will strengthen the link to practice.
The close coordination of teaching content with all institutes of the faculty is intended to promote the ability to work constructively with all available building materials and building systems, so that graduates are able to plan and erect constructions using the appropriate materials.
Research
The research focus of the Institute for Solid Structures is in the following areas:
- Sustainable construction materials
- Circular Building Design
- Monitoring over life span
- Recycling and demolition at end of life
- Secondary raw materials from waste products
The members of the institute are involved in numerous committees and standardisation bodies in order to be able to put the research results into practice in a timely manner. The latest knowledge from our research activities flows directly into the relevant courses.
