Solid bridge construction and support structures
M.Sc.

The course on solid bridge construction and supporting structures, which is offered to Master's students, focuses on the design and dimensioning of reinforced and prestressed concrete bridges and the associated supporting structures.

Course language: German | 6 CP | 4 SWS

Term: summer semester

Schedule: Mon. 08:10-9:40 | Fr. 09:50-11:20

Content

The planning and construction of bridges is one of the most demanding tasks of an engineer and therefore occupies a central position in the field of civil engineering. Bridge construction has repeatedly provided significant impetus for innovation, particularly with regard to new building materials and construction methods as well as the further development of calculation and design principles. The course teaches the fundamentals of planning, construction and design of solid bridges made of reinforced and prestressed concrete in a practical way. In addition, the different construction methods as well as the design and dimensioning of the associated supporting structures for bridge construction are presented.

Topics Lecture section Solid bridge construction

  • History of solid bridge structures
  • Load-bearing systems in longitudinal and transverse direction
  • Prestressing
  • Construction methods of solid bridge structures
  • Calculation and design of solid bridge structures
  • Bridge bearings and support concepts
  • Transition structures, bridge support and substructures

Topics Lecture section Support structures

  • Introduction to scaffolding construction
  • Special features of scaffolding constructions
  • Calculation principles, system and load assumptions
  • Calculation and construction of shoring
  • Special scaffolding constructions
  • Cases of damage and their causes
