The construction industry consumes enormous amounts of natural resources, generates more than 50% of the world's waste and is responsible for over a third of total greenhouse gas emissions. Traditional construction methods in solid construction need to be rethought: A reduction in resource and energy consumption is required to avoid jeopardising the natural environment for future generations. At the same time, the world's population will continue to grow and existing infrastructures will age. For this reason, we would like to use the 42nd Solid Construction Seminar to discuss alternative ways of making solid construction sustainable in the future with presentations from research and construction practice, as well as a direct dialogue.

The one-day seminar is based on a sustainable building cycle and is divided into four thematic blocks:

The Institute for Solid Structures at TU Darmstadt is conducting intensive research into various topics relating to sustainable solid construction. The 42nd Darmstadt Solid Construction Seminar will take this as an opportunity to present the innovations currently being researched. High-ranking representatives from the German research scene and construction practice have been invited to give presentations on how solid construction can be made more sustainable in the future.

We cordially invite you to join us for an exchange of experiences. To kick off the 42nd Solid Construction Seminar at TU Darmstadt, we welcome you on the evening of 9 October 2024 to the pre-event with a keynote speech, a stimulating panel discussion and a subsequent dinner at the Welcome Hotel in Darmstadt.

On the day of the seminar, 10 October 2024, we look forward to presentations from construction practice and research on all aspects of sustainable solid construction in four thematic blocks: Building materials, circular building design, monitoring over the service life, and reuse and recycling. The integrated discussion rounds and seminar breaks offer you the opportunity for personal and professional dialogue and to make new contacts.

We look forward to your participation.
