A Concentrated Dose of Infrastructure

IfM on a Bridges and Tunnels Field Trip

2026/07/03

At the invitation of Hessen Mobil, our students had the opportunity last week to visit several infrastructure projects. An extensive B38 bypass is being built around the town of Mörlenbach in the Odenwald. This construction project comprises a total of four major structures – two road bridges and two tunnels.

Following an introduction at the local information centre, the group toured the extensive construction site. They were able to walk across the Reisen viaduct – whose superstructure is currently being constructed as a steel-concrete composite bridge – as well as enter the two tunnel structures, which are being excavated using mining techniques.

This allowed for extensive insights into infrastructure construction within a confined space, for which we would like to express our sincere thanks!
